Agricultural Reform

COMPREHENSIVE AGRICULTURE REFORM STRATEGY

Being a practitioner in the agriculture business himself, Stanley Olori understands the intricacies of managing a successful agricultural enterprise as well as the importance of Agriculture to a thriving economy. His agriculture reform strategy focuses on revitalizing ONELGA’s agricultural sector to ensure sustainable growth and food security. He recognizes that outdated farming methods and limited access to resources are significant barriers to productivity and profitability for local farmers. It is unfortunate the ONELGA has some of the most hardworking individuals in the state yet food is equally as expensive as it is everywhere else. Almost every family has a farm but not every family has the assurance of good food. To address this, Olori plans to modernize agricultural practices by encouraging the adoption of advanced techniques and technologies, such as mechanized equipment and improved seed varieties. This modernization effort aims to transform agriculture from subsistence to a more commercial-oriented practice, boosting productivity and income for farmers.

To further support the agricultural community, Olori is committed to providing enhanced support for farmers through financial assistance, training, and infrastructure development. He plans to establish an agricultural credit scheme offering low-interest loans and grants, enabling farmers to invest in quality inputs and equipment. Additionally, Olori will focus on improving rural infrastructure, such as roads and storage facilities, to reduce post-harvest losses and enhance market access. With his long-standing relationship and collaborations, he intends to make ONELGA a production hub for reputable agricultural establishments and research institutes like the IITA, to ensure that farmers have access to improved cultivars and input materials.

Olori’s strategy also emphasizes sustainability and innovation to ensure the long-term viability of agriculture in ONELGA. He plans to demonstrate the possibilities of a government-owned farming unit with which to promote sustainable farming practices, such as crop rotation, organic farming, and the cultivation of drought-resistant crops, to protect natural resources and build resilience against climate change. The ONELGA Food Center as he calls it will be a hub for agricultural practices, from cultivation to processing and storage. It will be the food hub of the LGA where food stuff is cheapest. Products will be sold at affordable prices irrespective of the prevailing economic situations in Nigeria as ONELGA will run its own economy powered by ONELGA people. The food center will also serve as a ready market for farmers, ensuring productivity and guaranteeing that post-harvest losses and eradicated. Farmers can be confident to produce to the best of their capacity, knowing there is a ready market where the government will buy off their products if they are not able to secure buyers themselves.

Additionally, by involving youth in agriculture through education and entrepreneurship programs, Olori also seeks to make farming an attractive and profitable career choice for the younger generation. Through collaboration with community leaders, agricultural experts, and government agencies, he aims to create an inclusive approach to agricultural reform that meets the needs of all stakeholders and fosters a thriving agricultural sector in ONELGA.
